Things We Love: The Gucci Garden Collection

I feel like it’s been way too long since I featured something fashion related. As you know I love clothing, I appreciate the way garments are made and the inspiration behind a collection. I have been reading Vogue and Vanity Fair since I was quite young. Rudy Gernreich’s avant-garde creations are responsible for my love of bold prints and interesting silhouettes. It’s been a while since I have been inspired by a collection. I am not sure if all the stores I have visited as of late are only into buying neutrals because why is everything beige or grey? What happened to colour and prints? Where is the magic? Where is the Je né sais quoi?

Gucci’s women’s ready-to-wear (prêt-à-porter) summer capsule collection, Garden Collection has me singing pure fashion happiness. It’s a gorgeous floral bouquet of prints. It has 1970’s retro elements that never get old. Floral printed low-waist style flared denim, knit chapeaus that remind you of an old spy movie and a time where the motto was really about expressing who you are through what you wear. No shades of grey here.

We will have to thank Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele for giving us so much colour in full bloom. For creating what we imagined a tropical printed garden would look like. This collection, which includes beautiful ornate clutches, loafers, sneakers, delicately embroidered denim, eye-catching reversible bomber jackets, beautiful pleated skirts and blouses will be only available online.

Here are a few pieces from the collection:

Silk twill. Lurex web knit details and two front pockets with zip closure. I am in love with the little lady bugs on this jacket.

100% Cotton. Embroidered flowers & beautiful butterfly appliqués on blue washed denim. Features five pockets. The fit is: low waist, fitted on the top with a flared leg.

I featured pieces that are versatile. I love the entire collection but you can’t have everything. The above pieces work for both day and night depending the temperature. They also transition well into other seasons. This print is timeless, so I would look at these items more so as statement pieces. Imagine a pretty all white lace dress with the bomber jacket. Or a crisp white tank or sheer blouse with the denim. You can play with this bold colour palette. It definitely adds a touch of fab to all that beige and grey I see everywhere!
