In Your Wildest Dreams – Vacation Goals

Everyone has a list of their wildest dreams vacation goals. Places like Bali, Costa Rica, Greece etc. Those are all really great choices, but also really accessible for the most part. As in, the cost to get there is pretty reasonable and they are really well known to everyone.

My wildest dream vacation goals (or I should say vacation goals because they are not as easy to get to or save up for) have really changed over the last two years as I started traveling to different places and learned how to travel to ‘far away’ places in a short period of time. I thought I would share my list openly because I thought it might help other seasoned travelers and dreamers to think ahead and plan for something really exciting.

Now, my vacation goals likely won’t be achieved anytime soon. Each of them requires extensive planning and savings, but I will be checking them off one-by-one between now and probably (hopefully) by the time I’m 45.

Are you ready to hear them? In order…

  • Antarctica
You read that correctly. My number one travel destination is Antarctica, and yes, anyone can go for the modest price of around $10,000USD. I’m saving up, and I’m making my cold-hating boyfriend, Bryon come with me. Who wouldn’t want to kayak around icebergs while whales swim under you and penguins jump into the water? I think I might cry when this trip actually happens.

  • Kayak (or paddleboard!) Trip in the Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is a sight in itself. If you ever get the chance to see The Grand Canyon, it doesn’t even seem real. It feels like you’re in a video game. But the idea of kayaking through the canyon sounds like the dreamiest, most exciting adventure ever! It will be a hot one for sure, but I’m up for the challenge!

  • India and Sri Lanka
While I was in university I was accepted for a 3-month internship in India. New Delhi to be exact. I carefully prepared myself with lots of reading material and fell in love with the vibrant colours and opportunities. The thing with India is that you have to expect the richest and the poorest. The absolute poorest. You really need to accept that you will be witnessing some extremely upsetting sights in India. There is no in between there. But, if you can accept this, I think India would be a really amazing place to visit. My internship got canceled after the terrorist attack in Mumbai (liability was an issue and it was organized by my university). But my dream of going to India has lasted…I just need to find someone who is equally as excited about seeing this country as I am.

  • Alaska
After seeing Antarctica is my number one travel destination, this probably doesn’t come as a surprise. Alaska might be cold, but its landscape looks stunning! It has rugged wilderness and because it is so sparsely populated you can really take some time to appreciate outdoor activities. But the number one reason I want to go there: glaciers and icebergs.

  • Faroe Islands
Everyone wants to go to Iceland these days and to be honest, so do I. But first, I want to go somewhere not too far from Iceland, but a little more remote: Faroe Islands. This is where you will find the most breathtaking scenery, hardly any people (I swear, I’m not a misanthrope…I just like to get away from dense populations from time-to-time), little puffins sitting on the bright green grass with dark black cliffs below them and deep turquoise blue ocean. Have I sold you yet? This is where you go to overwhelm your eyes. But beware, the cost of living is high, which means you’re going to pay at least $25 for a burger and $10 for a small fries.

  • Cook Islands
Oh my gosh! I have included a destination where I can relax and enjoy the sun and the ocean with a cocktail! Yes, the Cook Islands is a beautiful destination to prance around in a bikini with a cocktail floating around in a coconut…but…. I want to go for the crystal clear snorkeling adventures, cycling trips, hiking and whale watching. Have I exhausted you yet? I think I can fit in some time to lay out on the beach during this trip, though.
