Our Top 5 Books To Read This Spring

I loved to read, I am a certified bookworm. Lately, I haven’t had much time to read so I have decided to put together a list of books that I would like to read this spring and perhaps you may be interested in as well. I will feature the ones I have read and my thoughts in the coming weeks. There’s no better way to decompress from work or life stress than getting lost in a book or reading The Things I Wish I Knew. I encourage you to read. It’s so important for your mental health. It’s sad to read statistics that report that people don’t read as much as they should anymore. I hope this changes and the optimist in me thinks it will.

Let’s put up our feet, find a cozy place and get lost in a book. Below are a few of the books that I will read. Please let me know of other books that you think I might like. I am so excited! When I was younger I used to spend my weekends at the library. I loved the whole process of signing out books. Now, I make a trip to the bookstore which is just as enjoyable.

I am sorry to the guys who read this site, although I don’t think books are gendered, you can read whatever you want. You may think most of the books I picked are for the girls. Feel free to send me your recommendations and honestly, you never know, you might like the books I have suggested.

All Grown Up – Jami Attenberg

All grown up and life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be…is it?! I think many of you who are now moving into the adulting stage of life, the career and long-term planning stages of life can relate to the main character in this book, Andrea Bern. For those who are worried that they don’t have it all together or you are stilling trying to figure it out, it’s okay. This is a great book to remind you of this. Welcome to adulthood!

All Grown Up

All Grown Up

Who is Andrea Bern? When her therapist asks the question, Andrea knows the right things to say: she’s a designer, a friend, a daughter, a sister. But it’s what she leaves unsaid—she’s alone, a drinker, a former artist, a shrieker in bed, captain of the sinking ship that is her flesh—that feels the most true. Everyone around her seems to have an entirely different idea of what it means to be an adult: her best friend, Indigo, is getting married; her brother—who miraculously seems unscathed by their shared tumultuous childhood—and sister-in-law are having a hoped-for baby; and her friend Matthew continues to wholly devote himself to making dark paintings at the cost of being flat broke.

Miss YouKate Eberlen

I miss you is about Tess and Gus, two people who are “meant to be”. It’s a story about life and how it everything seems to fall in place when the time is right. We often try to plan so much of our lives. When it comes to love or who you are meant to be with. Life will lead you to where you are meant to be if you trust the process.

Miss You: A Novel

Today is the first day of the rest of your life is the motto on a plate in the kitchen at home, and Tess can’t get it out of her head, even though she’s in Florence for a final, idyllic holiday before university. Her life is about to change forever – but not in the way she expects.

For one day, the paths of an eighteen-year-old girl and boy criss-cross before they each return to England.

Over the course of the next sixteen years, life and love will offer them very different challenges. Separated by distance and fate, there’s no way the two of them are ever going to meet each other properly . . . or is there? – Kate Eberlen

How To Murder Your Life –  Cat Marnell

Well, if the title doesn’t peak your interest, I am not sure what will. It’s true we are our own worst enemy and there’s nothing more powerful than self-sabotage. Cat Marnell, who went from” intern to editor through the beauty departments of NYLON, Teen Vogue, Glamour, and Lucky”, can attest to this. Your life will eventually spin out of control the longer you avoid your inner demons.

How to Murder Your Life: A Memoir

At twenty-six, Cat Marnell was an associate beauty editor at Lucky, one of the top fashion magazines in America—and that’s all most people knew about her. But she hid a secret life. She was a prescription drug addict. She was also a “doctor shopper” who manipulated Upper East Side psychiatrists for pills, pills, and more pills; a lonely bulimic who spent hundreds of dollars a week on binge foods; a promiscuous party girl who danced barefoot on banquets; a weepy and hallucination-prone insomniac who would take anything—anything—to sleep.

This is a tale of self-loathing, self-sabotage, and yes, self-tanner. It begins at a posh New England prep school—and with a prescription for Attention Deficit Disorder medication Ritalin. It continues to New York, where we follow Marnell’s amphetamine-fueled rise from intern to editor through the beauty departments of NYLON, Teen Vogue, Glamour, and Lucky. We see her fight between ambition and addiction and how, inevitably, her disease threatens everything she worked so hard to achieve.

The Arrangement Sarah Dunn

We talk about the complexities of relationships a lot on this site. We talk about honesty in companionship, you may have noticed in a few articles I have mentioned polyamorous relationships or open-relationships. Not something I would be into, but I definitely want to read about. Well, if you are interested in what this type of complicated relationship might look like, you might want to read The Arrangement. Oh isn’t it fun to live vicariously through fictional characters?! It’s interesting what happens when you open up pandora’s box. A fun experiment can lead to something you never expected.

The Arrangement: A Novel

When friends at a wine-soaked dinner party reveal they’ve made their marriage open, sensible Lucy balks. There’s a part of her, though-the part that worries she’s become too comfortable being invisible-that’s intrigued. Why not try a short marital experiment? Six months, clear ground rules, zero questions asked. When an affair with a man in the city begins to seem more enticing than the happily-ever-after she’s known for the past nine years, Lucy must decide what truly makes her happy-“real life,” or the “experiment?”
