If you have been following along, you will know that I prefer plant-based protein blends. I am not a vegan or vegetarian, I am a flexitarian. What does this mean? It means I eat a balanced whole-food diet but I don’t stress about it. I did the vegan thing for six years, as well as vegetarian. For my body, this didn’t work. With that said, I still maintain a few lifestyle choices from that time in my life when it comes to the kind of protein blends I prefer. I thought I would share with you three plant-based proteins you will love.

Before I get into it, I want to note that I do take bovine and marine collagen. You get the full benefits from bovine and marine collagen more so than vegan collagen. Yes, there are sources of vegan collagen, but they’re not as good. I will save this for another post though.

What do I look for in a plant-based protein blend? No soy, dairy, or gluten. It has to be easy to digest – no bloating. Bloating is probably one of the biggest issues when it comes to plant-based proteins.

WelleCo

I love this brand. I have already featured the Super Elixir and I have been protein cycling with the Nourishing Plant Protein vanilla and chocolate for the last few months.

Why Is It So Good?

  • 9 essential amino acids
  • 2 sources of protein – brown rice and pea protein
  • Digestive enzymes
  • Antioxidants – dandelion extract, grapeseed extract, curcumin, and pomegranate
  • Gut health: Pre/probiotic and Fibre
  • Minerals & vitamins – complete B vitamins

What’s protein cycling? I think it’s good to have three different protein brands that you can go back and forth with. The longer you are on the same protein blend, you may find that you are no longer reaping the benefits you once were. For example, the protein I would use after a workout is different from the one I would use as a meal replacement (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack). If my concern is gut health, I may use a different protein blend (see below). If I feel like I want something new, sometimes we get sick of the same protein powder, I will change it up. It is up to you. Remember not to overdo it. Real food is still important. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Do not solely rely on protein supplements to get your daily intake of protein or consume more than needed in one day. Also, depending on your needs, you may need more or less than the scoop provided.
