The Goodness of a Mushroom

I know what you are thinking…Yes, I am talking about magic mushrooms but not the ones that take you to another dimension mentally. I am talking about the benefits of eating and drinking mushrooms and how they can transform your beautiful life in the here and now. The earth has so much to offer us and it’s amazing what happens when we open our eyes and realize the fountain of good health and youth can be found in a mushroom.

I was a vegetarian then vegan for many years so mushrooms were a big part of my life during that time. Back then I was just cooking them; probably the same way most people do. I consumed them to get the protein I needed. It never occurred to me to look up the actual benefits of mushrooms and also the variety of mushrooms out there; I stuck to what I saw in the grocery store.

I recently discovered the benefits of mushroom teas. I have to share this with you. I have been drinking mushroom teas for the last 2 months. During this time I have been doing a lot of research. I have tried a few different brands. But one in particular stuck out for me and honestly as a result of drinking their mushrooom teas/elixirs I learned a lot more about the mushroom.

Reishi is a mushroom. I had no idea. Sounds, silly but it’s true. So this got me thinking…I need to find out more. Below is a list of a few of the different kinds of mushrooms I have tried in a liquid form.

CHAGA
Improves digestion
Wild harvested (right from the earth)
Enhances the immune system
Alleviates stress and anxiety

REISHI
“Queen of Mushrooms”
Calming and regulates your hormonal system thus lowering cortisol levels
Anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant

LIONS MANE
Honestly scary looking too me.
20 percent protein (yay!)
Boosts Memory
Anti-inflammatory

Please take some time to do more research on the above mushrooms I listed. You will find that there is a lot of good information I didn’t list. I will say I have noticed the benefits. A cup of mushroom tea or smoothie is a regular part of my day now.

I am not a crazy coffee drinker (not everyday type of thing) but every now and then I will have one. I came up with a great recipe using a Chocolate Shot with Reishi and Herbs by Four Sigma Foods. The good thing about this brand is that they carry a variety of different mushroom beverage mixes that offer different benefits. You pretty much can find what you are looking for in one place…don’t we love this! It’s also a product that has been touted by a lot of nutritionists.

Here is my recipe: CHOCOLATE SHOT LATTE

1 tsp of macca powder
1 tsp of coconut oil
1 packet of Xoco Blue with Reishi & Herbs
Almond Milk
A touch of Canadian maple syrup

This is meant for a cup, not a mug. But it’s up to you. I think you get more of a condensed flavour in a small cup.

It taste like the mocha latte you have always wanted. I hope you try this. I also hope you think differently about mushrooms once you have read this. The health benefits are unbelievable but you will have to try it yourself to find out.
