My Boyfriend: Back to Basics Eco 101

There is no time, like sale time to save some money. Some of you wanted me to help you save a little and of course I must oblige. It’s actually perfect timing because the end of June onwards is when most retailers kick off their sale campaigns. Just a little tip, don’t buy anything until mid to end of season. For example, stores generally bring in their spring assortment mid to late winter and early spring. They are a little ahead which means they need to get sales moving to make room for new merchandise for the next season. If you are a budget conscious gent pay attention to their merchandise schedule. In most cases, from the time a new product enters a store you will begin to see the first markdown or promotion within the next three weeks. This means more savings for you.

Below I have put together a simple look for you. If you refer to back to basics you will remember I went through the items you should have in your wardrobe.

Basics Eco Look

Above look price: $786.00 (not incldg tax)

Raquel Allegra Men’s Tee – $177.00

7 For All Mankind Jeans – $208.00

Alexander McQueen Belt – $325.00

Converse Unisex Chuck Taylor All Star – $76.00

I love this look, I also understand that you most likely may not want to spend the above price on only one look. Just keep in mind, you can interchange each item for many different looks. The shoes, belt and jeans will get a lot of wears. When it comes to high quality tee’s don’t over wear them if you want them to maintain the look. Reserve your best tees for special occasions or a night out.

Budget friendly look (yay for sales)

Total Cost: $399.73 (not incldg tax)

The great thing about the tee I have selected above is it can be dressed up or down. Paired with a nice pair of black trousers or fitted dress pants; you can create many different looks. As you can see, you can still get designer at affordable prices. I was able to find you the same brand of denim at a lower price. The Converse sneakers are also a great find and will last a long time with proper care. Go for leather or a nice suede finish for a polished look. You’re getting even more savings with the reversible Boss belt (brown on the other side).  Join a mailing list to find out when your go to store is having a sale; this is the best way to save.

ATTENTION!!

Okay, I have to talk about this. It’s very important…so pay attention. As a shorter gal you really get a different view of the world fellas. So if you lift your arm up and all I see is a yellow yield sign under your arm pits it’s quite alarming…oh the horror. So obviously, I must realize that some of you just don’t know and some of you don’t want to buy a bunch of new shirts every month. So I thought I would tell you how to get the yellow to vanish from your shirts and how to ensure longevity and freshness at the same time. You’re welcome in advance. Saving one pit stained gent at a time as a good cyber gf should.

Don’t even think about picking up a bottle of bleach. Although, bleach does a good job of making your whites brighter when used correctly. The cheapest, easiest and safest method is OxiClean. Yup, that’s it! Fill up your sink with warm water and a full scoop of OxiClean . Feel free to spot clean stains that look beyond repair. You can do this by making a paste that consists of OxiClean and water. Add a little water and Oxi into a cup and only add enough water to form a paste. Give your shirts a good soak, at least 30 minutes to an hour. Then throw them into the wash. You will be amazed at the results.

A good rule of thumb, wash your shirts right away and don’t let the stain fester. Please don’t wear an uncleaned shirt, I shouldn’t have to say this, but this is the worst thing you can do if you want to avoid the yellow.  Also avoid deodorants that contain aluminum in them.

I hope this helps you save some money. It’s not hard to find good deals once you have a foundation to work off of. Here is a little tip: Pick up your favourite mens mag and earmark pages with the looks you like. This is a good reference point for you when you shop. You can take a photo of it on your phone and take it with you as well. Keep the look in mind and if price is an issue, look for items that are affordable but will still help you achieve your style goals.
