At Home Spa Essentials: Manicure & Pedicure

It’s open toe season! It feels like it happened so quickly. I like to upkeep my nails all year but I know some people reserve this for the warmer months. It’s a great excuse to pamper yourself every week. You don’t have to go to the nail bar every week though, it can get pretty expensive! $20.00 and up (depending on where you go) adds up. You can easily spend $120.00 a month on your nails! Well, let’s cut that price in half at least and get into the habit of taking care of our toes and hands at home.

BLISSAchilles Heel  Spa

This is a spa powered heel smoother that was launched April 2016 by Bliss. I was excited to try it! I have seen a lot of people get their heels scraped during pedicures. The idea of this freaked my out. I guess the goal is to remove calluses but watching someone’s skin fly each time the razor skims their heels is a little alarming. I don’t suffer from calluses…well until I recently got a nice pair of classic black Doc Martens (they’re making a come back, I love them). I noticed that the back of my heels were starting to callus a little. Not bad enough that I would turn to the razor (never!) but enough that I felt that I need to do something about it so it doesn’t get worse. The things that shoes do to your feet, the blisters, the pain…I can’t deal!

As of late Fridays have become my spa day. The week is over and I just want to relax, have some vino or maybe a matcha latte and just chill. One of the things I like to do is give myself a mani and pedi. I get both done once a month at a nail bar up the street from my house and I do the in between upkeep myself. I can’t tell you how much I love this spa powered heel miracle. You would seriously have no idea that a little callus was making its mark at the back of my heels. I love my Doc’s but I like my smooth heels a little more. It’s simple to use and clean-up is a breeze. Sometimes with powered foot buffers there is dead skin everywhere. I didn’t have that issue with this one, most of the skin emptied itself into the top of the exfoliating disc. Use the exfoliating disc first and then the buffing disc…this is what I did. After I finished up with my pedicure I applied Bliss’ Foot Patrol AHA Exfoliating & Softening Cream with aloe leaf + peppermint.

Ceramic GlazeBotanical Oasis

I love flowers (I have said this many times). I also love bright colours. I have never been afraid of colours although I do have a large all black section in my closet. It seems a lot of people are embracing a monochromatic sensibility these days. It’s a great look but there is nothing wrong with prints and bright hues. If doing this with your attire is too risky then I suggest you give bright nail polish colours a try. A nice hue of purple, pink or green makes you feel like you’re somewhere tropical. Bright colours also look great with neutral tones and shades.

Ceramic Glaze just introduced a gorgeous array of nail polishes just in time for spring. It’s truly a botanical oasis of nail polish. This polish goes on smooth and you don’t need more than 2 coats. This collection offers a great selection of textures such as neon gloss, shimmer, crème gloss and matte glitter.

Here are a few of the colours I have tried so far. Weekly home pedicures or polish changes are fun when you have different colours to pick from. (scroll over/click on image to find out the name of the polish)

Emjoi MICRO Pedi

This is a great powered heel buffer for smoothing out your heels and the base of your foot…even your toes. It has a micro roller that is quite gentle. It’s definitely gentle enough to use twice a week right after a bath while your skin is still damp. Don’t worry it’s water-resistant! You can rinse the head of the unit but do not submerge the rollers in water. It comes with two interchangeable rollers and a small brush for cleaning. According to the manufacturer each roller can be used approximately 10 to 20 times. It’s light weight and small enough to throw in your travel bag. It’s my go to mid-week!

Emjoi MICRO Nail

I am in love with this. You can only use it every two weeks as per their recommendation but that’s all you need. If you don’t wear nail polish all the time it smooths and buffs your nails to a perfect shine. It’s also great pre-polish application to buff and smooth any nail ridges. It’s the fastest manicure I have ever done on myself with great results. It comes with MIRCO Smooth and a MICRO Shine rollers that work together to improve the overall look of your natural nails. I used it two weeks ago and my nails still look great!

Kit Comes With

  • 2 AA Batteries (not included)
